Instructions

  1. Treat Mild Acne With Cleansers

    • 1

Wash your hands before touching your face. Fingers have oil and dirt that block pores.

    • 2

Treat mild outbreaks by washing the skin daily with care, using acne cleansers or benzoyl peroxide 5% bars. Go to any drugstore for these over the counter cleansers.

    • 3

      Rinse well after washing.

    • 4

Remove dead skin once or twice weekly with facial scrubs. Drugstores have exfoliating cleansers and applications like special sponges; but read the instructions for proper skin care.

    • 5

Apply non-oil-based lotions, hair products, cosmetics and sunscreens during an outbreak. Oil-based products contribute to pore clogging.

    • 6

Monitor your skin's condition for improvement. Allow 4 to 6 weeks for noticeable results.

Treat Mild to Moderate Acne With Over the Counter Medications

    • 7

Buy over the counter medications by strength, 2.5, 5 or 10%. Begin with the lowest level first and always read directions for proper care.

    • 8

Use benzoyl peroxide gel or cream for daily application on acne or every other day if redness occurs. This clears oil ducts and eliminates bacteria.

    • 9

Get salicylic acid medicated pads to eliminate inflammation and strengthen cells. Use this topical application according to directions.

    • 10

Apply resorcinol, sulfur or Retin-A to areas needing treatment. These gels, creams, pads and lotions have different effects according to skin type. For sensitive skin use creams or lotions and for dry skin use the gels.

    • 11

Allow several weeks for noticeable results.

    • 12

See your dermatologist if over the counter applications don't help. He'll recommend stronger prescription creams, gels or antibiotics.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wash oily hair regularly.

  • It's a myth that not washing your face produces acne.

  • Don't squeeze your pimples. Infection might set in and bacteria could spread to other facial areas.
