When we think about feeding our dog, most of us don't think about fruits and vegetables. However, many premium dog foods actually contain fruits and vegetables, and some of them are healthy. However, not everything that is good for humans is good for dogs, so follow these steps to feed a dog fruits and vegetables.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  1. Step 1

Add fresh or frozen blueberries to your dog's food. These berries have antioxidants, which slow down the aging process and protect against cancer, cardiovascular disease and other chronic degenerative conditions.

  2. Step 2

Serve other fruits like apples and mangoes. You can serve these fruits in chunks or puree them for your dog.

  3. Step 3

Treat your dog to some carrots or zucchini. If you are serving these vegetables raw, grate them finely to make them easier to digest.

  4. Step 4

Try pumpkin, especially if your dog has loose stools. You can use canned or fresh pumpkin.

  5. Step 5

Use potatoes--white or sweet--as a carbohydrate source for your dog.

  6. Step 6

Make green leafy vegetables like spinach or cabbage part of your dog's diet. These vegetables provide important nutrients for dogs.

  7. Step 7

Think about adding a little orange or grapefruit to your dog's meal. These provide lots of vitamin C and a new flavor to your dog's diet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never give fruit seeds to your dog, since these can be toxic.
  • Give your dog fruits and vegetables in small amounts. Too many fruits and vegetables can cause your dog to have diarrhea.
