Step 1
Pick the color that suits your face the best. The natural color of your cheeks when flushed is the best option, and to find this simply pinch your cheeks and wait a few minutes to see the color that appears. If pain is not your thing, skip this tip and try to match your natural lip color.
-
Step 2
Know your skin type, whether oily, combination or dry. Powder blushes are best for oily skins while creams do more justice to dry faces. If you have combination skin, try a cream and powder together.
-
Step 3
Buy a professional blush brush, which is a large brush, much larger than the mini brushes that come inside the blush compact. Devote the brush solely to blush, never using for powder or foundation.
-
Step 4
Rub the brush gently on the powder and tap off any excess powder. For cream blushes, rub the tips of your middle or ring fingers into the cream lightly.
-
Step 5
Find the apples of the cheeks by smiling. This is the largest and roundest part of the cheek on the front of the face. Lightly apply the blush to the apples of the cheeks. If you've applied too much, use clean finger tips or a tissue to remove cream, or apply face powder over powder blush to calm the color down.
-
Step 6
Finish the framing of the face by sweeping the blush upward from the apple of the cheek toward the hairline. If you have very small cheek bones and want more definition, move the blush line to just under the apple of the cheek, still drawing upwards. This will create a shadow effect making the cheekbones appear stronger.
