If you struggle with nail biting or just simply are unable to grow out your nails, then applying acrylic tips may work for you. Acrylic tips are strong and durable and require relatively low maintenance. Follow these steps to apply acrylic nail tips.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prep the current nail bed by buffing out any rough spots along the nail bed and sides. Clean the nail beds to remove any dust or nail fragments.

  2. Step 2

Determine which acrylic nail matches the nail bed it is being applied to. Typically acrylic nails are numbered from zero to ten with zero being the largest. The acrylic nail can be placed along the nail bed to ensure proper size and fit.

  3. Step 3

Use nail glue only, and place a small drop of glue on the nail bed and lay the acrylic tips along the tips of the nail bed. The acrylic nail should follow the natural lines of the existing nail.

  4. Step 4

Apply a small amount of pressure to the acrylic nail tips to help them adhere to the nail bed. Wiggle the acrylic nail tips gently to check if they stay securely in place when the glue is dry.

  5. Step 5

Trim the acrylic nail tips to the desired length. They do not need to be trimmed if you like the original length of the acrylic nail tip.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure the nail beds are completely dry before applying acrylic nail tips. If water gets trapped between the nail bed and the acrylic tips you risk a fungal infection.
