Becoming a singer takes hard work and dedication. Having a good voice and being able to sing well is only part of it. You will have to also be committed to the career and have confidence in yourself and your singing ability.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Learn how to read music. Some people say that you do not need to know how to read music to sing well, but most experts agree that not being able to read music is a handicap to a professional singer.
Step2
Develop your singing muscles just as you would develop your body's muscles if you wanted to become an athlete. There are several tiny muscles used to coordinate your singing voices and various exercises you can do to improve the strength of these muscles. A voice coach can assist you if you need help with this.
Step3
Listen to your favorite singers. Pay attention to how they sing. Decide what you like about their singing and what you do not care for.
Step4
Develop your own unique singing style. Experiment with different types of singing and different styles of music. Find the ones that match best with your personality and your voice and stick to them. You want people to recognize your voice and your songs when you sing.
Step5
Overcome fear and stage fright. Sing in front of people every chance that you get so you can become more comfortable with public performance. A karaoke bar is a good place to start public singing.
Step6
Make a commitment. Give every free moment that you have to developing a singing career and continue to perfect your style and technique. Take a part time job singing but keep your full time job until your singing career takes off.
