Step 1
Find a tailor that will do alterations. This person should be someone that has a proven track record of successful alterations on other wedding dresses. If someone in your family can do it, they may not charge you as much, or at all. Other times, the place you bought the dress will offer these services.
-
Step 2
Be in a good, relaxed mood when you go for your fitting. Sometimes the tailor will tell you that you have gained a little weight. You must be prepared for these words, but do not take them too hard. You will have time to get that weight off.
-
Step 3
Schedule your alterations early enough to have them completed in time for the wedding. This should also be scheduled early enough that you can determine how much weight you need to lose as well. A month ahead of the wedding should be ample time.
-
Step 4
Take your bridal shoes with you. This will allow the tailor to see how long the dress actually needs to be and gives you the opportunity to see your true height for the wedding day.
-
Step 5
Leave your makeup at home. You do not want to get any stains or marks on your dress.
-
Step 6
Tell the tailor exactly what you want so there will be no problems later. Make sure the dress fits like you want in the waist, bust, back, and shoulders.
-
Step 7
Try on the dress one more time following the alterations to make certain everything is in order for the wedding. This should be done at least two weeks prior to your wedding, Your weight will not change much in this short amount of time and you will be sure your dress fits perfectly.
