Diet pills are a huge industry and as more and more drugs hit the market, it is very difficult to determine which products are safe and which will cause far more problems for our bodies than just having a few extra pounds. Of course, not everyone achieves their desired results with just diet and exercise, so it is important that you know how to shop for safe diet pills if you choose to use them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Know your own medical history. Some diet pills are not safe for people with particular ailments, while they could work perfectly well for others. This seems especially true for individuals with diabetes, heart disease and liver problems, who should be especially cautious with potent diet pills like Venom Hyperdrive 3.0 or Ephedra. Choosing only those diet pills that will not interfere with any of your current, past or potential medical problems is the only safe way to go.
Step2
Use only those pills that have been approved by your regular doctor. Some diet pills may even need a prescription from a medical professional, so taking any other diet pills will not be safe if you are currently on any kind of medication or medical treatment. If this is the case, trust your doctor and don't shop around for any other diet pills.
Step3
Research not only the individual diet pills, but also the active and inactive ingredients in the diet pills. Find out whether any of the active ingredients have been banned in the U.S., U.K. or any other country and why. Then make your decision based on this information. If a substance is banned in one country, it is possible that the FDA has not completed its investigation of the diet pills, which is why it is still on the market. Determine for yourself whether you feel the diet pills are safe if you find this to be the case.
Step4
Inquire about the businesses where you plan to shop for your diet pills. Find out how long they have been in business as well as the credentials of the pharmacists. Any legitimate business will gladly offer up this information to reassure a costumer, while more shady operations will balk at your questioning.
Step5
Exclude the following diet pills and ingredients from your safe diet pill list: Ephedra, Citrus aurantium, bitter orange extract, synephrine, sida cordifolia, caffeine, aspirin, ECA stack products, guarana, kola nut, phentermine, sibutramine and Orlistat. The Weight Loss Resources website out of the UK has a detailed discussion of just why these ingredients are not safe for consumers (see Resources below).
Step6
Use only pills that do not interfere with the nervous system or appetite suppression. Most fat "blocker" diet pills appear to be the safest type of diet pills, though they can have unpleasant side effects such as leakage.

Tips & Warnings

  • Trust your instincts when it comes to purchasing any medications. If you feel that the store is not trustworthy, you're probably right--whether you know why or not.
  • "All Natural" does not equal safe. Many ingredients are found naturally, but that does not mean that they will only have beneficial effects on your body.

on 5/9/2008 My doctor prescribed Orlistat, so I dont know if I agree with it being considered "not safe".
