The 2002 Buick Century has a very useful computer system that will warn you about various problems, when they occur. If your “Change Oil Soon” light stays on after you start the car, it is time to service the oil and oil filter. You should do this as soon as possible, after you see the light. Oil and oil filter properly replaced

Step 1

Turn the key to the “Run” position when the car is not on.
Step 2

Slowly press completely down on the gas pedal and then release it. Repeat this three times within a period of five seconds.
Step 3

If the “Change Oil Soon” light blinks, the oil monitoring system is in the process of being reset.
Step 4

Turn the vehicle key to the “Off” position.
Step 5

Start the car. The “Change Oil Soon” light should come on for a few seconds (as all the monitoring lights do), but then go off. If this is the case, you have completed resetting the “Change Oil Soon” light. If the light stays on after a few moments of the car running, the system has not been reset. You must again follow the steps to reset your “Change Oil Soon” light.

The “Change Oil Soon” light comes on once the monitoring system has tracked the engine temperature and a certain amount of engine revolutions, not the actual mileage. The system figures the life expectancy of the oil according to the individual driving conditions. This amount will vary a lot from vehicle to vehicle.
