The Adobe Premiere Pro Timeline defaults to the same settings every time you open a new project. If you are working with many different layers in your Premiere Pro Timeline, you may need to expand or collapse some tracks. You can adjust the presets of the Timeline to better view specific tracks, depending on your working style and your preferences.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, expand the track by clicking the triangle next to the track name. Then click on the “Set Display Style” button at the left corner below the track name.

  2. Step 2

If you click on the “Show Head And Tail” option, a thumbnail image will display at the beginning and end of clips in the expanded track. If you click on the “Show Head Only” option, a thumbnail image will display at the beginning of the clips in the expanded track.

  3. Step 3

The “Show Frames” option displays a thumbnail image along the entire duration of the clips in the expanded track. The number of thumbnail frames corresponds to the time units displayed in the time ruler. “Show Name Only” displays the name of clips in the expanded track, without thumbnail images.

  4. Step 4

You can also expand a track to display track controls. This will increase the height of a track to better see icons and keyframes, or to display larger views of video track thumbnails and audio track waveforms.
