How to Use Embossing Powder on Cards

Embossing powders are used to create many different effects when making cards. You can purchase embossing powders in a wide range of colors and textures, which are sure to add to your creative ideas. Embossing is used in combination with rubber stamps to create an elegant and attractive card. The effect of embossing is a raised and glossy look that is often used on lettering to give cards more dimension and a more professional look.

Things You'll Need

• Rubber stamps
• Ink
• Card stock
• Embossing powder
• Heat gun

Instructions

1. Choose the rubber stamp that you would like to use for your design. Add ink to the stamp by pressing firmly onto an ink pad.

2. Press the stamp onto your card. Hold the stamp down firmly, and lift straight off the page to prevent smearing.

3. Sprinkle the embossing powder on the wet ink immediately so that it will stick to the design.

4. Turn the card upside down and tap it lightly with your finger to remove any excess powder.

5. Heat the embossing powder with a heat gun until the image is shiny. Hold the gun at least 6 inches from the card to prevent overheating or fire.

6. Apply additional stamps and colors of embossing powder if you desire.

Tips & Warnings

• If you do not have a heat gun, you can heat the embossing powder by holding the card at least 6 inches from a hotplate or a toaster, but be careful to protect your hands from burns.

• Never heat the embossing powder by holding a card over an open flame.
