    Things You'll Need

    • An account at del.icio.us
      • 1

If you don't already have an account at del.icio.us, register there to get started bookmarking (see link in Resources below).

      • 2

As part of the registration process, you will install some bookmark buttons in your browser. Whenever you find a page you'd like to bookmark, simply click the button.

      • 3

You can add tags to your bookmarks to categorize them and to help yourself and others who are interested in topics bearing those tags to share your bookmarks.

      • 4

If you want to keep your bookmarks private, you need to add one more item to the buttons in your browser toolbar. It is a bookmarklet found at QuickOnlineTips (see Resources for link).

      • 5

Scroll down the page to find the bookmarklets (they look like hyperlinks) under Quick Post without Sharing or Quick Post without Sharing and 1 Tag.

      • 6

Pick any or all of the four bookmarklets under these headings and drag them from the browser window up to the bookmarks toolbar in your browser. If your Bookmarks Toolbar is not open, go to View > Toolbars > Bookmarks to show it.

      • 7

Use the bookmarklets in your Bookmarks Toolbar to bookmark any page that you want to keep private. You will only be able to see it when you are signed in to your account at del.icio.us.

    Tips & Warnings

    • A bookmarklet is a bit of JavaScript that you add to your browser's toolbar to perform a particular action, in this case, create a private bookmark.
