Step 1
Start by selecting a shade of makeup foundation that closely matches your skin tone. Test 3 different shades on your jaw line to find the right color, and avoid choosing shades that are too dark or too golden.
-
Step 2
Apply makeup foundation to your face using the tips of your fingers, a makeup sponge or a foundation brush. A liquid makeup foundation requires you to apply and blend a little at a time until your entire face is covered. Use a makeup sponge to apply a crème foundation in downward strokes to blend it completely. Apply powder foundation as you would a compact powder.
-
Step 3
Dab a dime-sized bit of makeup foundation to the center of your forehead, on each cheek and on your chin. Small dots of makeup foundation applied under the eyes act to conceal dark circles. Blend the makeup foundation down and out.
-
Step 4
Pay attention to areas other than your face. To avoid streaks and other obvious makeup mistakes, remember to apply makeup foundation on your neck, ears, eyelids and around the hairline.
-
Step 5
Finish the makeup foundation with a light dusting of translucent powder.
