How to Add Shapes in OpenOffice Impress

Shapes can add interest to your next OpenOffice Impress presentation and direct your audience in the right direction. Adding the shapes is easy once you know the steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • OpenOffice Impress

Step1
Start OpenOffice Impress and open an existing presentation or start a new presentation in which you would like to add one or more shapes.
Step2
Summon the Drawing toolbar by choosing the "View" menu, pointing to "Toolbars" and clicking on "Drawing."
Step3
Click the arrow beside the "Basic Shapes" button to summon the shapes that can be added to your Impress presentation. The "Basic Shapes" button is the ninth button from the left and is represented by the last shape that was used.
Step4
Select the shape you would like to add to your presentation by clicking on the shape.
Step5
Go to the area of the presentation where you would like to add the shape. Notice that your mouse is now in the shape of a crosshair.
Step6
Left-click your mouse and drag downward to create the shape you have selected.
Step7
Release the mouse button when you are happy with the size of the shape you have added.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can quickly add a rectangle or ellipse to your Impress presentation by clicking those buttons on the drawing toolbar and clicking and dragging with your mouse onto the presentation.
