Proper care of your child's hair is important because it is your job as a parent to keep your child clean. In addition, when children are young is the best time to teach them how to wash, rinse, comb and style their hair. Read on to learn how.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gentle shampoo
  • Light conditioner
  • Comb or brush
  • Hair accessories
  1. Step 1

Wash your child's hair with a mild shampoo. Make this step fun by letting him choose the shampoo that he likes. Children's shampoo comes in many different colors and scents. It is also gentle on the eyes.

  2. Step 2

Condition your child's hair. Either you can use a rinse-out conditioner in the bathtub or a leave-in conditioner that you spray on the hair before you comb it. This will make the hair soft, shiny and much easier to detangle. Always use a light conditioner as opposed to a heavy one.

  3. Step 3

Allow your child to brush her own hair. This will allow her to control the pressure of the brush and the amount of tugging and pulling that is involved. It will also make her feel important. Children often get upset when hair combing is painful and will discourage them from enjoying this hygiene routine. If they are having trouble getting the tangles out without tugging at the hair, just apply more conditioner or detangling spray.

  4. Step 4

Feed your child a healthy diet rich with many nutrients. 100 percent whole wheat bread, fresh vegetables and fruit will fuel his body as well as promote the growth of healthy shiny hair.

  5. Step 5

Purchase nice combs, brushes and hair accessories to instill an interest in hair care and hair styling. Let your child help choose these items.

Tips & Warnings
  • While your child is in the bath, you can go ahead and comb through conditioned hair before rinsing it. Only use a comb on wet hair.
  • Don't comb or brush your child's hair too much. That will cause breakage. Just a few strokes to get the tangles out are plenty.
