Step 1
Determine the type of game. Different types of animals require adjustments to equipment and materials. Arrows and bow settings differ greatly depending greatly on the actual size of the animal.
-
Step 2
Find a compound bow that is suited to the hunter. Testing each bow is the best way to ensure a proper satisfaction with the weapon. Tension of the pulley systems and cams are a factor different from traditional bows.
-
Step 3
Practice with the compound bow before the hunt. Employing a qualified instructor to better familiarize the hunter with the bow is a great idea. The bow should become an extension of the hunter's body.
-
Step 4
Prepare all of the equipment and supplies beginning a week before the hunt. This allows the hunter time to collect and pack all supplies and ensures enough time for rest and planning. This is the time to sight and adjust the features of the compound bow, such as the pin-sights and anchor points.
-
Step 5
Take along another experienced hunter or guide. Another hunter can always offer advice and help if needed.
-
Step 6
Inspect the compound bow and make certain the weapon is in safe, working order. The bowstring should be undamaged, and there should no cracks in or damage to the compound bow's body or structure. All pulleys should turn freely and easily.
