Things You'll Need:
- Quilling strips of your color
- Pin head
- Hook
- Variety of sizes of beads of your choice
- Glue
- Graphing paper, four Squares/per inch
- Straight pins
-
Step 1
You will learn a new technique called husking. Husking is a series of long, thin shapes made by wrapping strips of quilling paper around a line of pins inserted through a piece of graphing paper on your work board.
-
Step 2
To make the wings, place a piece of four squares per inch graph paper on your board.
Place 6 pins on the lines going up a vertical line.
Take a strip of the paper and make a small 1/8 inch fold around the first pin. Glue to secure.
Wrap the strip up and around the second pin and back to the first pin; glue to secure it. Continue to wrap and glue until you are out of pins. If you need more strips, just glue one to the end before your continue to wrap.
Remove the pins and let the husking shape dry.
You will need to make four of these. -
Step 3
Next, make a tight roll. You simply roll the strip into a roll and glue without letting the paper move. You need two tight rolls.
-
Step 4
Take a three inch piece of craft wire that will let your beads go through them. At the top of the wire you need to bend back to form a hook and load two of the large beads.
-
Step 5
Next you need to slide one of the tight rolls up to rest against the bead.
-
Step 6
Next you are going to glue the four husking wings to the disc, making some of the tip be in the middle of the disc. Now slide the other tight roll up the wire and glue the wings and rolls together.
-
Step 7
Slide three medium size beads and following those two small beads.
-
Step 8
Twist the end of the wire into a knot. The last thing is to add a split ring to the hook and hang onto a chain.
-
Step 9
This is optional, but I always add a layer of decoupage onto my quilled jewelry to help preserve it.
