Most curly haired men who shave on a regular basis are familiar with the the annoying presence of razor bumps. Concentrated clusters of these bumps often resemble bad acne. You may feel that razor bumps are a curse that you'll have to live with forever. However, you can get rid of razor bumps by following a few simple steps.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mild facial cleanser
  • Small face towel
  • Moisturizing shaving cream
  • Razor
  • With Hazel or rubbing alcohol
  • Soft cotton pad
  1. Step 1

Let your skin rest two or three days between shaves with a razor. Your skin needs time to recover from the effects of a razor blade. Use an electric shaver or trimmer between razor shaves if necessary.

  2. Step 2

Wash your face with a mild facial cleanser. A standard daily face wash will do.

  3. Step 3

Use warm water to soften your hair before and after shaving. The warmer the water the better. Apply the water to a towel and wrap the warm towel around the area to be shaved. Just be sure to avoid making the water so hot that you burn yourself.

  4. Step 4

Apply a moisturizing shaving cream while your face is still warm and wet. Let the cream sit on your face for a few minutes to soften your skin and hair even more.

  5. Step 5

Shave in the direction of your hair's growth. Use smooth, even strokes.

  6. Step 6

Rinse your face with warm water. Be sure to remove all traces of shaving cream.

  7. Step 7

Apply with hazel astringent or rubbing alcohol to your face with a soft cotton pad to kill bacteria and prevent infection.

Tips & Warnings
  • When using a razor, don't shave the same area more than once.
  • Don't pop or squeeze bumps. This will only worsen outbreaks and sabotage your efforts to get rid of razor bumps.
  • Don't shave against the grain of your hair. This can increase your chances of developing razor bumps.
  • Avoid using razors with multiple blades. They often lift the hair and cause it to snap back which makes the shave close enough to cause razor bumps.
