So you want to give your picture a little flair but don't have any photo editing software? Well, even with something as basic as Microsoft Word, you can take your regular color photos and turn them into a classy black and white.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A digital photo
  • Microsoft Word software

Step1
Open Microsoft Word on your desktop.
Step2
Insert your chosen picture into Microsoft Word by going to "Insert," then "Picture," then "From File," and choose the picture from its location on your computer. The picture will then appear on your document.
Step3
Right click on your picture and choose the selection "Format Picture." A new menu will appear.
Step4
On this menu, choose the tab "Picture." From here, you will see a section entitled "Image Control." Under this title there is a drop down menu labeled "Color." Pull down this menu and choose the option "Grayscale." It is important you DO NOT choose the "Black and White" option. When used on photos, this makes them look cartoonish and distorted.
Step5
Voila! Your picture should be in black and white. You can save your picture as a Word document, or copy and paste it into your preferred program.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you aren't happy with your changes, you can always undo them by pressing "Ctrl" and "Z" at the same time.
