Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Step1
Open Nvu and find a web page you've already begun or start a new page.
Step2
Set text as a paragraph or heading using this drop down menu.
The tool to specify whether your text is a heading or a paragraph is in a drop down menu. Highlight the text you want to set and select either a paragraph or a heading tag from the drop down menu.
Step3
A heading and two paragraphs
In this image you see a heading and two paragraphs. Notice that you can display the pages in tabs—two are shown here (Home and Formatting Text). Also note that you can choose to view each page you are working on in different ways using the tabs at the bottom of the document window. You can view it as normal, with HTML indicators, as HTML source or as a preview.
Step4
Icons are available to format numbered and unordered lists.
The icons for various text formatting tools are similar to those used in word processing or in other WYSIWYG editors such as Dreamweaver. Therefore, you probably will recognize their purpose easily. For example, to create a bulleted list, click the icon symbolizing a bulleted list and type your list. When you are finished with the list, deselect the list icon to stop writing a list.
Step5
Use the link icon to create a hyperlink.
You create a link using the link icon. Highlight the text you want to make clickable in the link and click the link icon.
Step6
Specify the file or web page you wish to link.
A dialog opens where you can find the file within your website or enter the absolute URL of a web page that is not part of your website.
Step7
Highlighted text can be made bold, italic, or there's many other options.
Other formatting options such as bold, italic, alignment, font size and creating blockquotes are available too. In this image, you see some highlighted text being bolded using the B icon.
Step8
The bold is created using an inline style.
For those who are intersted in using Nvu as a professional-quality web design tool, note that the text is bolded using an inline style rule, and that the text is set as bold, not as emphasized. There are better ways to do this with CSS, which is explained in one of my other articles in the Nvu series.
