The concoction of honey and ginger has been proven to be an excellent home remedy for colds, coughs and other respiratory conditions. Both have anti-oxidant properties that boost your body’s immunity, enabling it to fight colds or cough infections.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 quart water
  • 1 cup ginger root, peeled (or ½ cup dried ginger)
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 inch ginger root
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • Dash of lemon juice (optional)
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • ½ cup fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced

Honeyed Ginger Syrup

Step1
Pour the water into a pan and bring it to a boil.
Step2
Add the ginger root and continue boiling until the brew is reduced by half (1 pint). Stir in the honey.
Step3
Pour the concoction into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to a month.
Step4
Take a teaspoon of your herbal syrup three times a day.

.Honeyed Ginger Tea

Step1
Pour the water into a pan and bring to a boil.
Step2
Roughly chop up the ginger root and add the pieces to the water. Lower the heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
Step3
Strain the herbal brew into a mug. Stir in the honey.
Step4
Drink a cup up to three times a day.

Honeyed Ginger Infusion

Step1
Pour the honey into a pan, and warm it over low heat until it thins out. Add the sliced ginger and stir for 3-5 minutes.
Step2
Pour the honey and ginger into an airtight container and cover. Let steep for 3 weeks.
Step3
Eat your 3 to 4 slices three times a day. Alternatively, stir a tablespoon into a cup of hot water for a steaming cup of herbal tea.
Step4
Store the remaining honeyed ginger in a refrigerator for up to a year.

Tips & Warnings

  • When preparing your ginger, peel it as thinly as possible to retain as much of its volatile oil as possible.
  • Store your ginger in a dry area to prevent it from sprouting.
  • Any herbal remedies must only be used in consultation with your doctor or other licensed health practitioner.
  • Ginger should not be taken by anyone with inflammatory bowel disease, gallstones, ulcers or blocked intestines.
