How to Make a Picture Frame Serving Tray

Decorative serving trays can be expensive accessories when purchased from a home décor store. It’s far less expensive—and much more fun—to make your own serving tray out of a picture frame.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Remove the glass from the frame and clean it off with glass cleaner and a paper towel.
Step2
Place the glass back in the frame, add the photo you’ve selected along with the matte then replace the backing to seal up the frame.
Step3
Measure the width of the frame, then divide by two to determine the center point. Use the pencil to lightly mark this point on both sides of the frame where you plan to place the handles.
Step4
Measure between the screw holes on the drawer pulls then divide by two. Take this number and measure out from either side of the center points you marked on the back of the frame, marking with the pencil where the drill holes will be.
Step5
Drill through the frame at all four points, being careful not to split the wood.
Step6
Screw each drawer pull to the top of the frame.

Tips & Warnings

  • This tray is designed for decorative purposes only. If you plan to carry items on it, you should glue a piece of wood, MDF or finished particleboard to the bottom for added stability before adding the handles.
