How to Enable Comcast Email Spam Filters

Rate: (1 Ratings)

The first unsolicited email (spam) was sent in 1978 when the recipient of the message had not communicated with or asked for information from the email sender. Today, spam has become a thorn in the flesh of most email users and has expanded into mobile phone messaging, blogs, instant messaging and search engines. More spam originates in the USA than anywhere else, five times more than second-place South Korea. Fortunately, you can combat this wave of spam using your Comcast email account to prevent these pesky emails from showing up in your inbox.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Log into your Comcast webmail account at Comcast (see Resources below). Provide your unique user name and password to enable and gain access to your account.
Step2
Look at the options on the left side of your web browser. You should see "Mailbox Manager," "Preferences" and "Voice Mail." Select "Preferences" by clicking the name or icon (small box).
Step3
Choose to make changes to how spam is processed by clicking the words "Spam Filter."
Step4
Prevent spam from going to your Comcast email's inbox by clicking the circle beside the phrase "Prevent Spam from reaching my INBOX." You should see a dot in the middle of the circle after you enable it, signifying this option is selected.
Step5
Choose to send spam to the "Screened Mail" folder in Comcast webmail by clicking the box next to the phrase "Keep a local copy in my Screened Mail folder in Webmail." All suspected emails will go into the "Screened Mail" folder so you can review it periodically.
Step6
Prevent spam from showing up in your email at all by leaving the box blank beside the phrase "Keep a local copy in my Screened Mail folder in Webmail."
Step7
Confirm your settings and enable the changes to your Comcast email by clicking "Update."

Tips & Warnings

  • Delete the files in the "Screened Mail" folder on a regular basis. Oftentimes, spam has large pictures or flash files taking up a lot of space on your Comcast email account which allows 250MB of storage.
  • Spam filters don't block 100 percent of unsolicited emails. As new spam filters are developed, programmers work hard to find a way through the filters.
  • If you are part of a large mailing list with any organization, emails from the organization may be mistaken for spam. You may need to set an option to allow messages from the organization or use the "Screened Mail" feature in Comcast email.
