Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Cut out two sheets of metal grid sheeting to 2 feet by 2 feet. Trace a heart shape onto each sheet of metal grids. Use a permanent black marker. Cut out the two identical hearts with metal cutters or tin snips.
-
Step 2
Lay one heart out on a flat surface. Run a string of white lights around on the top of the heart. Cut short pieces of floral wire and tie the lights inside of the grid heart. Leave the plug hanging out the bottom of the heart.
-
Step 3
Place the second heart on top of the heart with lights.
-
Step 4
Cut more short pieces of floral wire and start tying the two hearts together along the edges. Simply weave the wires between the two grids and tie them together.
-
Step 5
Rip off small piece of pink or red tissue paper to about 2 by 2 inches. Apply decoupage to the back of the tissue paper squares and start placing them on the front of the heart. Paint more decoupage on the front of each piece. Saturate the tissue paper so it completely adheres to the metal grid hearts.
-
Step 6
Continue to apply tissue paper to the heart lights until it is coated completely front and back. Coats of tissue paper create a decoupage medium that can be applied until the surface is smooth and you can not see the grid
-
Step 7
Allow the decoupage medium to dry. It will dry quickly in about 30 minutes or less.
-
Step 8
Paint words on the front of the candy heart light with acrylic paint. Use words found on traditional Valentine’s candy hearts for inspiration. Let the paint dry.
-
Step 9
Drill two holes in the back of the candy heart light. Place them near the top and about five inches apart.
-
Step 10
String floral wire through the holes to create a hook to hang the candy heart light with. Simply run wire through one hole and out the other. Tie the ends into a knot to create a loop. Hang on a hook in the wall.
