To achieve the quintessential Florida Keys experience there are things you need to do. Follow these steps and you'll understand why the people who live there call home paradise.

Step1
Get out on the water! The islands might be best known for their clear, beautiful waters. Take a boat, take a kayak, take the time to experienec its clear tranquility. Swim, snorkel, dive, find a way to immerse yourself.
Step2
Sample the native cuisine. Have a cup of conch chowder. The spiny lobster does not possess claws, but the tail meat is rich and succulent. Try stone crab. Locals eat them cold with a creamy mustard sauce. Key lime pie can be a lot like snowflakes and margaritas, it's hard to find two exactly the same. You better try more than one slice.
Step3
Have a rum runner. Mojitos and margaritas are all fine and good, but the real Florida Keys libation is the rum runner. Orignated on Upper Matecumbe Key, the rum runner is a frozen blend of dark rum, blackberry and banana liqueurs, grenadine and lime.
Step4
Watch a sunset. From the hammock, a tiki bar, or Mallory Square, take the time to watch the magnificent sun meld into the far edge of the horizon.
Step5
Feed the tarpon at Robbie's Marina. Stop by the Perky Bat Tower. Tour the Hemingway House. Take a Conch Tour Train around Key West by day and a Key West Ghost Tour at night. Talk a walk in the starlight (but bring along your bug spray!).
