If you're in an office or work in a shared workspace, chances are you have wireless Internet connection. One of the most common forms of PC printing is via a shared network of wireless printers. It sounds simple enough. However, at times it can be a challenge to connect to a wireless device in your office vicinity. Learn how to search for the best printer connection on your shared network.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Network Internet access
  • Wireless network printers
  1. Step 1

Look in your workspace or nearby vicinity for a shared network printer. The best way to reduce a long walk to a printer is to locate the closest one to you. Jot down the serial number and make of the wireless printer.

  2. Step 2

Open up your "Start" tab and go to "My Computer." Your settings should be located under this file, but if they aren't, peruse your PC settings until you locate the printing/faxing folder or icon.

  3. Step 3

Double-click on your Printer settings and look for a "Locate wireless printer" or "Add printer" icon. If you already have a wireless printer set up, but you want one that is closer to your desk, click on "Add printer."

  4. Step 4

You will be prompted with a "Searching for network printers" message and the process could take a few minutes. Give the search some time and wait for it to complete.

  5. Step 5

If you notice that the printer you want isn't listed, type it in manually or double-click on the name of the printer you want. When given the option to connect to it, do so.

  6. Step 6

If you find that you still cannot print a test page from the particular network printer you want, you may have to connect to the shared printer manually each time. If another computer in your workspace is connected to that particular printer, have the computer user set up a shared printer status on the network printer. Add a user ID and password in the shared printer allowances to allow your PC to access the printer.

  7. Step 7

Go into your network folder and look for the list of available PC's on the network. In order to "trick" the network, you will have to sign into the shared printer network with the user ID password your coworker allotted for in the shared printer folder.

  8. Step 8

Double-click on your coworkers' network name and you will be prompted to enter your user ID and password. After doing so, you essentially are on their shared printer network and should be able to print from your desired network printer at this time.
