Photofacials use thermal energy and light to promote collagen production in the skin dermis. The procedure makes your skin more youthful and can lighten freckles. Freckles are tan spots of melanin that occur on people who are pale or fair skinned. There are similar to age spots. Photofacial is an effective way to deal with your freckles and make them less noticeable.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Find a photofacial clinic online (see Resources below). Ask your doctor about possible side effects for your skin type before agreeing to the procedure. Side effects may include blistering, redness and swelling. They are usually minor.
Step2
Schedule a consultation with a local clinic in the spring or summer, when your freckles are evident.
Step3
Understand how photofacials work. The freckle absorbs the wavelength and the pigment is broken apart. The fragmented pieces are absorbed into the body. There's barely a trace of the original freckle.
Step4
Schedule treatments with a practitioner. Treatments last about 30 minutes and are scheduled across a period of three weeks. Most patients need 5 to 8 total treatments for the best results. Get a touch up treatment in a couple of years. The photofacial will last until then.

Tips & Warnings

  • You should be able to return to work following a photofacial. There isn't much down time.
