Step 1
Be prepared to make a commitment. A DMOZ editor is expected to be active in his directory, review submissions and complete edits quickly.
-
Step 2
Browse the DMOZ Open Directory project for topic directories that interest you. The DMOZ Open Directory project is run by people who are passionate about their directories, so your interest in the directory should be strong because you'll be reviewing many sites.
-
Step 3
Choose a directory in a field or topic in which you have experience and knowledge. If you're new to a subject, learn more about it before applying to become a DMOZ editor.
-
Step 4
Navigate to the DMOZ website and browse the directory which you wish to edit. If this is your first time applying to become a DMOZ editor, choose small, undeveloped or abandoned directories in need of work.
-
Step 5
Click on the "Become an Editor" link at the top of the page.
-
Step 6
Read the "Becoming an Editor at the Open Directory Project" page. This page outlines requirements and suggestions for becoming an editor. Your application will be processed by DMOZ staff and editors, so be sure you understand everything on this page.
-
Step 7
Click the "Proceed" button at the bottom of the page. This will bring you to the application form.
-
Step 8
Fill out the application. State any affiliations you have with sites you may be submitting and explain why you wish to become an editor.
-
Step 9
Provide two or three sites you wish to submit to the directory. Editors are expected to make contributions to the directory. If you're accepted as an editor, you can add these sites to the directory, process incoming site requests and edit existing submissions.
-
Step 10
Submit the form. Once the form is submitted, it will be reviewed by DMOZ staff and editors. If you are accepted, you will be emailed with login details. If you do not log in within a month of the acceptance, your account will be disabled.
