Adobe Photoshop Elements is similar to the full version in a lot of ways, but a bit easier to learn. If you are just learning Photoshop you may want to experiment with some of the easier features to learn at first. Here is how you can start an image with a transparent background Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Things You’ll Need:

• Adobe Photoshop Elements

1. Open the program and go to "File," and select "New," then "Blank File."
2. In the pop-up window that opens, first give your image a name by typing it directly in the Name field.
3. In the fields next to “Width” and “Height,” change the presets from pixels to inches. Here is where your will specify the size of your new image. Enter a standard size, such as Width = 4, by Height = 6.
4. Under resolution, enter a number depending on what your final image will be used for. 72 is standard for web, while 100 to 200 is considered a low resolution printed image. 300 and higher is for higher quality image output.
5. Under Color Mode, chose "Grayscale" for a black and white image, or "RGB" for a color image.
6. Under "Background Contents," choose "Transparent" for a “blank background.”
7. Click "OK." You are now ready to begin building your image.
