Adobe Photoshop Elements is similar to the full version in a lot of ways, but a bit easier to learn. If you are just learning Photoshop you may want to experiment with some of the easier features to learn at first. Here is how you can start an image with a transparent background Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Adobe Photoshop Elements

Step1
Open the program and go to "File," and select "New," then "Blank File."
Step2
In the pop-up window that opens, first give your image a name by typing it directly in the Name field.
Step3
In the fields next to “Width” and “Height,” change the presets from pixels to inches. Here is where your will specify the size of your new image. Enter a standard size, such as Width = 4, by Height = 6.
Step4
Under resolution, enter a number depending on what your final image will be used for. 72 is standard for web, while 100 to 200 is considered a low resolution printed image. 300 and higher is for higher quality image output.
Step5
Under Color Mode, chose "Grayscale" for a black and white image, or "RGB" for a color image.
Step6
Under "Background Contents," choose "Transparent" for a “blank background.”
Step7
Click "OK." You are now ready to begin building your image.
