Did you ever get a new phone number and then receive countless phone calls for someone who didn't live there? Have you come home and found messages left to this person on your voice mail? This can be very annoying especially if the calls come late at night. It can also be stressful for the person who’s calling because your number is the one given for their person. Here are a few hints of what to do to stop receiving wrong phone calls from people.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Answering machine

Step1
Be polite and explain to them that they have the wrong phone number. If they call back, address them again and remind them that you have already spoken. Usually, the embarrassment of you knowing who they are forces them to be more careful so they don’t have to talk to you again.
Step2
Leave a greeting on your voicemail that identifies who you are so that when they call they know they have the wrong number and they won’t leave a message.
Step3
Leave a greeting message that says, “This is not the voicemail for so and so, and if you’re calling for them you have the wrong number.” The caller will usually hang up from embarrassment.
Step4
Put a block on your telephone which only allows designated callers to get through.
Step5
Call your service provider and explain your situation to them and see what they can do to help you. Sometimes, newly issued phone numbers have not had the old name removed from them.

Tips & Warnings

  • As annoying as this can be, remain polite and helpful because it could be you some time who has dialed the incorrect number.

on 8/5/2008 I have been receiving many telephone calls on my office telephone and when I answer it I hear nothing but a loud beep. I receive numerous calls a day and have gotten that when I see that # on my caller ID, just pick it up and hang up. How can I go about finding out who could be calling without paying to find the answer.
