A brick stitch is a stitch that is used in the art of needlework, specifically beading. The beads are placed together in such a way that they look suspiciously like a wall of bricks, hence the name. When you are through with this stitch there will be no thread left showing. It is a cool stitch when done in the correct manner.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nymo D thread
  • Size 11/0 seed beads
  • Brick stitch pattern
  • #12 Beading needle
  1. Step 1

Thread a small needle with beading thread.

  2. Step 2

Position 2 bubbles on your string. Return the string making sure that you are returning through the 2 bubbles, at a similar angle, creating a circle and pulling the bubbles parallel.

  3. Step 3

Put the 3rd bubble and cut through the 2nd bubble a second time, from the upper to lower sides.

  4. Step 4

Transport the thread back up completely through the 3rd bubble, from upper to lower levels.

  5. Step 5

Place the 4th bubble, passing through from upper to lower, then moving though the 3rd bubble from upper to lower.

  6. Step 6

Carry forward in this way, changing direction (upper to lower, lower to upper) on alternating bubbles.

  7. Step 7

Use a zig zag to secure the bubbles in place after all of the bubbles are in place on the primary row.

  8. Step 8

Start the next row by positioning 2 additional bubbles, and passing below the string that ties the 2nd and 3rd bubbles on the primary line.

  9. Step 9

Pass the thread up through the 2nd bubble and down through the 1st bubble, and then up through the 2nd bubble again.

  10. Step 10

Repeat Steps 1-9 for the remaining rows.

  11. Step 11

Sew any stray threads into the completed item when you have finished the design.
