Stretching after ballet class is as important as the class itself. Your muscles need to relax after the workout so they don't tighten to the point of pain. So before you put away your ballet shoes, follow the steps to learn how to properly stretch after class.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stretch carefully after class ends, focusing on relaxing your body and cooling down the muscles. Stretch for a specific number of seconds or until your body feels good through the movement.

  2. Step 2

Do a calf stretch. Stand at the barre and extend one leg backward to stretch your calf. Bend the supporting leg and straighten the back one, stretching for a few seconds before repeating with the other leg.

  3. Step 3

Sit with your legs in front of you and bend forward at the waist as far forward as possible. Reach your fingertips to your feet and touch your nose to your knees. Point and flex your feet, stretching your hamstrings.

  4. Step 4

Practice splits stretches after class. Stretch forward with your legs in front of you in a V. Turn to each leg and stretch to your toes. Make sure to keep comfortable and not hurt yourself by stretching too far.

  5. Step 5

Reach your arms over your head and to the side in ballet poses to stretch your abdominal and arm muscles. Breathe in deeply as you stretch and finish your workout in relaxation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid forcing your body to stretch beyond its capacity. Stretching after ballet class should be a way to relax the muscles, not hurt them.
