How to Make Edible Finger Paint

Children love to paint. They enjoy painting different objects and using various colors. Making edible finger paint can be a fun project for children as well as their parents and can be the source for loads of fun. Edible finger paint is not only cheap to make, but it is also safe to use around little children. Here are the steps to help you get started making edible finger paint.

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 cup of hot water
  • 1 1/2 cups cold water
  • 2 Tbsp salt
  • Food coloring
  • Saucepan
  • Whisk or mixer
  1. Step 1

    Obtain a medium sized saucepan and set aside

  2. Step 2

    Mix the flour, salt and cold water in the saucepan and stir well. Press down and smooth out any lumps.

  3. Step 3

    Add a cup of hot water to the mixture above and stir it well.

  4. Step 4

    Put the saucepan on the stove and let it boil on medium high heat. Stir consistently until the mixture thickens. Watch the mixture as it boils to ensure it doesn't burn or turn into clumps.

  5. Step 5

    Turn off the heat as soon as the mixture thickens.

  6. Step 6

    Remove the saucepan and use a mixer or whisk and beat the mixture until very smooth.

  7. Step 7

    Divide the mixture into several small disposable cups.

  8. Step 8

    Add different food coloring into each mixture according to the desired colors. Mix food coloring to make special colors.

  9. Step 9

    Enjoy the fun of using gooey, safe finger paint from your kitchen.

  • Add some sugar to the mixture to enhance the taste of the finger paint.
