1
Start the checklist on your computer's word processing program. This will enable you to easily make changes to your list as you think of new areas to babyproof.
-
2
List the rooms in your home you plan on babyproofing. Make sure you include your child's bedroom, bathrooms, the kitchen, the living room or family room, your child's playroom, if he has one and outdoor areas, such as the backyard or garage.
-
-
3
Make note of the major areas you need to babyproof in each room.
-
4
Add check boxes to babyproof cabinets, drawers, appliances, electrical outlets and the pantry under the kitchen section of your checklist.
-
5
Babyproof your baby's crib, changing table and the windows in his bedroom. Also, add items to store diaper changing products and any bath soaps out of your baby's reach, and to remove all blankets, stuffed animals and pillows from his crib to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome known as SIDS.
-
6
Insert items to pad sharp edges on coffee and end tables, secure bookshelves to the wall and hide drapery cords under the living room or family room section of your checklist.
-
7
Check to make sure you have check boxes to install safety latches on all cabinets and drawers in your bathroom, as well as doorknob and toilet seat covers.
-
8
Type reminders to store all lawn equipment, fertilizers and chemicals on high shelves your baby cannot reach, and to remove any poisonous plants from your garden beneath the backyard and garage sections of your checklist.

Tips & Warnings
Thoroughly survey your house and note the individual areas you will need to babyproof in each room, in addition to the general ones. Add these to your checklist.
Add a reminder to poison-proof each room in your home as well. Include items to store personal care items, such as makeup, and all household cleaning products far out of the reach of your baby.
