Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit the MapQuest website. At the top of the page, click the link to "Directions."

  2. Step 2

Enter your starting location in the fields on the left side of the page. Include the place name as an option, such as a specific airport, hotel or park. Then, type the address or nearest intersection, city, state and ZIP code. You can leave the ZIP code field blank if you don't know it.

  3. Step 3

Type the ending location into the fields on the right side of the page. Enter the address or intersection, city, state and ZIP code of your destination.

  4. Step 4

Pick "Get Directions" after you've entered your information. At the next page, view your intended route by reading the numbered, step-by-step maneuvers, such as turn right, merge or go straight onto specific streets or highways. Icons are displayed next to each direction to indicate the direction of your turns, or whether you're driving onto an interstate or state route. Look at the map on the bottom of the directions page if you want to see a graphic representation of your commute.

  5. Step 5

Print the directions to have while you are traveling. Click the "Printer-Friendly" link to print out your directions and map. Go back to the directions page by clicking the "Back" button at the top of your web browser.

  6. Step 6

Check the "Reverse Route" option on the right side of the directions page. Select the "Update Directions" button to get directions from your destination back to your starting point.

Tips & Warnings
  • MapQuest also offers advanced options to customize your driving directions. From the directions page, check off the shortest time or distance, and pick directions that avoid highways, tolls or closed roads. Pick "Update Directions" to see the revised directions.
