Checking accounts are handy to have. You can pay bills, write a check for purchases or use the debit card most banks issue with your checking account. When you use an online banking account, you can get all the services that you would have with a regular checking account plus some bonuses. Read the following to learn how to open a checking account online.

  1. Step 1

    Investigate the services each bank offers and decide which bank you want to open your online checking account with. Some banks do charge fees for a checking account, but there are others that don't.

  2. Step 2

    Sign up for an online account. If you were to open an online account with Bank of America, you need to put in the location you live. It will then take you to a page that tells you information about that location.

  3. Step 3

    Fill in the information that they ask you. Have the following information available to put into the application--social security number and current email account.

  4. Step 4

    In order to access your account you will need to set up a logon and password that only you should know.

  5. Step 5

    Make sure you read the terms and conditions, you don't want to be hit with hidden fees later on. Some online checking accounts pay interest.
