With a few simple ingredients, you can make wonderful room fresheners. This is a very simple, easy process. Plus, it is a great thing to let children help with. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1/2 cup Cinnamon
  • 3 tsp. Water
  • 4 tsp. Glue
  • small mixing bowl
  • large mixing bowl
  • Spoon
  • Ribbon
  • Straw
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Wax paper

How to Make Cinnamon Room Fresheners

Step1
Mix water and glue together in the small mixing bowl. This makes mixing the liquids with the cinnamon easier.
Step2
Add cinnamon to large mixing bowl, pour liquids over cinnamon and mix together. It may take a little bit to mix all the cinnamon together with the glue and water, you can also use your hands to mix them together.
Step3
Once the cinnamon, water and glue are mixed together completely, the mixture will be crumbly but will stick together once rolled together. Roll into a ball in your hands and work the mixture. This will make the mixture more likely to stick together.
Step4
Place on a large sheet of wax paper, flatten out a bit with your hand, place another piece of wax paper over the top of the cinnamon and roll out with the rolling pin to about 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick.
Step5
Start to cut out the cinnamon with the cookie cutters--just like you would when you actually make cookies. Take the straw and cut out a hole at the top of the cinnamon cutout where you would like the ribbon to go through.
Step6
Next gather up the unused cinnamon mixture, roll into a ball again and repeat steps four and five. You will need to gather up the cinnamon and roll out several times till all the mixture is used.
Step7
Transfer the cinnamon cutouts from the first piece of wax paper to a second piece of wax paper to dry overnight. You will need to turn the cutouts over once to allow both sides to dry completely, there will be a slight difference in color once it's dried.
Step8
Once the cinnamon cutouts have dried completely, take a 6-inch piece of ribbon, place through the hole, tie together, your done. This amount will make about 6 3-inch cutouts, depending on the shape.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may also have to add a little bit more water or cinnamon depending on the brand of cinnamon you use.
  • You can add names to them a few different ways by printing the names on paper and then gluing that to the cutout. Painting the name on is a very nice and permanent way to do it; but some of the cinnamon can come off. It's best to use old markers.
  • They also work great to tie onto Christmas presents, use as name tags at the holiday table or give as gifts themselves.
  • You can add extra little decorations to the ribbon or tie through the hole along with the ribbon.
  • These are a relatively safe way to freshen your room, there are no chemicals in cinnamon room fresheners that you have to be worried about. The only thing is that you probably don't want anyone, including pets to be eating the glue.
