How to Make Customized Poker Chips

A slew of companies take orders for customized poker chips -- for a premium price. With the help of a computer and some creativity, customize your own set and spend much less. Add your artistic touch to a set of high-quality chips to get the look you want. You may catch your fellow poker players admiring the chips between hands.

Things You'll Need

  • Poker chips with flat 1-inch centers
  • 1-inch circular white labels arranged on printable 8.5- by 11-inch sheets
  • Graphic design software
  • Printing or page setup template designed for your labels
  • High-quality laser or inkjet printer

Instructions

    • 1

Shop in local specialty stores or online to locate a good deal on clay or composite poker chips. Ensure that the style you choose features a flat center circle that is 1 inch in diameter.

    • 2

Buy sheets of white, 1-inch round sticker-style labels at an office supply store. Some labels include a CD with a template for easy printing on your home printer or refer you to a website where a template can be downloaded. Select a brand that will provide you with the appropriate template. Each chip will require two labels.

    • 3

Use Adobe Photoshop or your favorite graphic design program to create a design of your choosing. Make sure each design is set in a perfect circle and save each image at a high resolution. For help, search online for tutorials or tips related to the specific program you're using, or enlist the help of a friend who is familiar with them.

    • 4

Follow the directions supplied with your printing template to open the template file in your graphics program and import your custom -designed images into the template. The finished file should appear as a single page filled with several rows of your design.

    • 5

Print the labels on a high-quality laser or inkjet printer.

    • 6

Carefully affix one finished label to each side of the chips.

Tips & Warnings

  • Print a sample page with a few designs scattered around on the template page to ensure that your designs are lined up properly with the stickers and that your print quality is to your liking.
  • This method allows you to reprint labels if your chip designs fade or become damaged with time. Just soak your chips in warm soapy water and scrub them to remove the old labels, dry them well and replace them with new ones.
  • While most chips have a standard center circle size of one inch in diameter, be sure to check before you buy.
