Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Desktop Computer (PC)
- Internal memory card reader that will accommodate many types of cards (such as SD, CF, Smart Media) and it must be proper size for your empty bay (3.5 or CD/DVD-ROM size).
- Screwdriver--Phillips or flathead (check what the screws are on the computer - one with a magnetic head is helpful).
- Antistatic wrist strap
- Vacant drive bay or empty (or removable) 3.5" floppy drive bay (either one will work)
- Workspace
- Place to store screws (empty bottle or container with tight lid)
- Internet (optional)
- Motherboard manual (optional)
Step1
Attach antistatic wrist strap while in workspace.
Step2
Unscrew or push in, release and pull apart the computer cover (case). Methods will vary due to differences in brands.
Step3
This diagram illustrates the locations of computer drives and bays
Access your empty drive bay (usually computers have an vacant drive bay underneath the occupied CD/DVD drive). Or, you can remove the 3.5" floppy drive to make room for your new drive, but you must purchase one that will fit in the correct bay, as each are different size.
Step4
Connect the bay to the proper slot on the motherboard using the cables provided (you may wish to consult the Internet or your motherboard manual for proper placement if you are unsure).
Step5
Test the flash card reader to make sure cables are fastened correctly and are secure. If it reads/lights up then you can close up your case. If not, switch the cables and try again.

on 12/30/2007 Not sure what brand, they are all different. Most of the time you can get to the bay fairly quickly unless it is a poor design. Thanks for reading!
