A personal blog is a fun way to share your opinions and experiences with the world. But due to safety and privacy concerns, many bloggers prefer to remain anonymous. This way, potential employers and the like can’t base their decisions on your personal opinions, and would-be stalkers can’t bother you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure your contact information is not associated with your blog. You could sign up with a free blogging service and keep your profile information hidden. If you prefer to have a blog on your own domain, there are domain proxy services that you can pay to register your domain under their company name, preserving your anonymity.

  2. Step 2

Come up with a pseudonym, and use it consistently. It can be an online handle, but make sure you don’t use one that you’ve used elsewhere and is associated with any identifying information. You could also use a fictitious first and last name, but try to find one that is unique to prevent any legal issues.

  3. Step 3

Make up original nicknames or pseudonyms for your friends, family, and acquaintances. Calling them by name could allow readers who know you personally to figure out who you are.

  4. Step 4

Avoid making any references to where you live. While it may not hurt anything to allude to your state or country, naming your county, city or town could aid in blowing your cover. Similarly, try to avoid discussion of local businesses or landmarks, or at least don’t call them by name.

  5. Step 5

If you submit your blog to directories or social networking sites, be sure that your information will be kept private first. Use your pseudonym if possible, and try to avoid giving out your address information in association with your blog. If it becomes necessary, consider getting a P.O. box to use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don’t use false information when registering your domain. This violates the terms of service of most domain registrars, and it could have legal implications as well.
