Whether you have dyed, chemically straightened or permed hair, deciding how to lighten your color can be a tricky process. Chemically treated hair has already been stripped of some of the important oil it needs to maintain moisture, beauty and shine. However, there are a few simple tricks that your can use which will lighten your hair gradually and safety without causing excess damage to already processed hair.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Powdered cinnamon
  • Olive oil
  • Egg yolk
  • Shower cap
  1. Step 1

Place 2 tbsp. of powdered cinnamon in a small bowl. Cinnamon is a natural lightening agent that will not affect straightened or permed hair, and will not damage your locks like chemical hair bleaching products.

  2. Step 2

Add 1 tbsp. of olive oil and one egg yolk to the cinnamon and stir well. The olive oil and egg yolk will help to distribute the cinnamon evenly through your hair, but will also add natural moisturizing elements to your lightening remedy.

  3. Step 3

Wet your hair and wring out the excess water. Comb your hair thoroughly to release any tangles. Apply the cinnamon mixture evenly to your hair from root to tip. You can comb through your hair again if necessary to help distribute the mixture.

  4. Step 4

Tie your hair up in a bun or secure with a hair clip once the cinnamon mixture is fully distributed through your hair. Cover your head with a shower cap and leave the mixture in your hair overnight.

  5. Step 5

Wash your hair as normal the following morning and check your color. Cinnamon is a very gentle method of lightening your hair, perfect for compromised processed hair. If you would like your hair to be a shade lighter, you may repeat the lightening process without fear of further damaging your delicate hair.
