Making patriotic craft projects is a great way to celebrate Memorial Day with children. After making the crafts, let them decorate the house with their creations. A fun and easy project to do with children is making a Memorial Day wreath.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Red, white and blue construction paper
  • Star shaped cookie cutters or stencils
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Dinner plate
  • Cardboard
  • Glue
  • Buttons, ribbons and glitter
  • Hanger
  • Masking tape
  1. Step 1

Trace several stars on red, white and blue construction paper and then cut them out. The number that you will need will depend on the size of your stars, but you should plan on somewhere between 15 and 20. Try two different shaped stars to add variety to your design.

  2. Step 2

Put the dinner plate on the cardboard and draw around the outer rim of the plate. Remove the plate and cut out your circle. Cut a smaller circle out of the middle of your circle. Your cardboard should now be in the shape of a wreath.

  3. Step 3

Place the stars on the wreath overlapping them and alternating colors. If you have two different sized stars put the smaller ones on top of the larger ones. When you are happy with your design, glue the stars in place on the cardboard wreath.

  4. Step 4

Decorate the stars by gluing on buttons, ribbon or glitter.

  5. Step 5

Using masking tape, attach the hanger to the back of the cardboard wreath.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also write the names of soldiers in the stars on the wreath.
  • For variety try making a wreath of flags instead of stars or make one with both flags and stars.
