How to Request IRS Form 1098-E

IRS Form 1098-E is the form used to report to students the amount of interest they paid during a tax year on their student loan. Form 1098-E is one of the few forms that are not downloadable from the Internal Revenue Service's website. This form must be ordered.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Go to the Internal Revenue Service website and navigate to the Forms and Publications by U.S. Mail page.

  2. Step 2

    Click on the link that reads "Online Ordering for Information Returns and Employer Returns." Clicking the link takes you to an order form page. Scroll down until you find the form that you're looking for. In this case, you need IRS Form 1098-E.

  3. Step 3

    Determined the tax year for which you need 1098-E. Through the website you can request 1098-E for the current tax and one year prior.

  4. Step 4

    Type in the number of forms that you're requesting under the year that you're ordering for. Once you've entered the number of forms you need, click "Add to Cart" at the bottom of the list.

  5. Step 5

    Modify the quantity if necessary and click the appropriate command button. You have the option to "Update," "Removes Items," "Empty Cart," "Resume Shopping" or "Checkout." Once you're ready to check out, click the "Checkout" button.

  6. Step 6

    Provide your shipping information on the next page and click "Continue." You'll have the option to edit your address and review cart one more time. Once you've confirmed that all the information is correct, click the "Confirm" button. Your request will be processed.
