Things You'll Need:
- Telephone numbers of parents
-
Step 1
Get the names of the students. If you are a chaperon, ask other teachers or faculty the names of the students that are consuming alcohol at the prom.
-
Step 2
Talk to the students. Let the teenagers who are drinking know that you will inform their parents of their behavior. They may be drunk and that may cause more drama, but let them know that underage drinking is dangerous and illegal. If you do not confront the students they may drink and drive and end up hurting themselves or someone else.
-
Step 3
Get the telephone numbers of the students' parents. This can easily be done through other students, teachers and faculty members. If these avenues don't work, try looking in the phone book or student directory.
-
Step 4
Talk to the parents. First, identify who you are and that you were at the school's prom. Next, let them know that you saw their son or daughter consuming alcohol and thought that they should know.
-
Step 5
Be tactful. Most parents are not aware that their children have ever touched a drop of alcohol, so it is important to be tactful by presenting the facts clearly and concisely so that the parent does not become defensive. A good way to do this is to state that you are worried about their son or daughter's safety and want to make sure that he or she does not get into a car with a drunk driver.
