How to Make String Easter Eggs

Lacy string Easter eggs are a fun and creative alternative or addition to traditional Easter eggs. You can make string eggs in any size you choose, from as small as a real egg to as large as you can blow a balloon. With a few simple and affordable supplies, you'll be on your way to creating your own bright and festive Easter eggs. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cover your work area with a large plastic sheet or tarp, as this project can get a little messy. If weather allows, you may consider completing this project outside. Keep a few wet washcloths handy for picking up spills and splatters and wiping your hands.

    • 2

Blow up a balloon the same size you want your finished egg. Remember that bigger eggs will require much more string. If you like, you can place an object inside of the balloon for decoration, such as a small Easter bunny or candies, before blowing up the balloon.

    • 3

Pour the liquid fabric stiffener into a gallon sized plastic bag and place your sting or yarn into the bag. Hold the top of the plastic bag tightly and mush the liquid and yarn, soaking the string completely.

    • 4

Pull the string out of the bag little by little, squeezing the excess liquid out with your fingers. Wrap the balloon in the colored string criss-crossing the balloon. Continue until covered as desired, leaving open gaps between the string to create a hollow Easter egg.

    • 5

Allow the string Easter egg dry for a few days on a piece of waxed paper. When completely dry you can pop the balloon and carefully pull it out. Decorate the outside of your egg with ribbon or beads using a hot glue gun. You might even cut open the string Easter egg and fill it will artificial grass and candy or any other Easter decorations your would like.
