Hovercrafts have left viewers in awe for many years. Now anyone with a little time on their hands can make their own hovercraft with just a couple household objects. Within 10 minutes you can be experimenting with your own hovercraft.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Old CD you no longer use
  • Sports bottle lid
  • Party balloon

    Materials Needed

  1. Step 1

Choose a CD you no longer want or use. The CD you choose will end up with glue and many scratches on it.

  2. Step 2

Select a balloon, preferably a medium sized one. A balloon from a party pack would be the ideal choice.

  3. Step 3

Obtain a sports bottle lid. The lid you choose should open by pulling on the nozzle and close by performing the same action.

  4. Make the Hovercraft

  5. Step 1

Glue the bottle lid over the hole of the CD. Make sure it is centered over the hole.

  6. Step 2

Make sure you can still open and close the lid. Without being able to do this, the air will not be able to fill up the balloon.

  7. Step 3

Attach the balloon to the opening of the lid. Push the stem of the balloon as far as you can down the bottle lid.

  8. Play with the Hovercraft

  9. Step 1

    Open the sports bottle lid.

  10. Step 2

Blow air into the balloon through the hole in the CD.

  11. Step 3

Close the lid so the air cannot escape.

  12. Step 4

Release the hovercraft and watch it sore around the room.

  13. Step 5

Repeat the process to continually fly the hovercraft.

on 11/24/2008 I love the hovercraft project. I did it with my son and he learned all about air pressure. But we built a bigger version from plywood and a leaf blower. I found another good website with fun cool free experiments like this to do with him. I'll post it below for anyone whos interested.
