Things You'll Need:
- Old CD you no longer use
- Sports bottle lid
- Party balloon
-
Step 1
Choose a CD you no longer want or use. The CD you choose will end up with glue and many scratches on it.
-
Step 2
Select a balloon, preferably a medium sized one. A balloon from a party pack would be the ideal choice.
-
Step 3
Obtain a sports bottle lid. The lid you choose should open by pulling on the nozzle and close by performing the same action.
-
Step 1
Glue the bottle lid over the hole of the CD. Make sure it is centered over the hole.
-
Step 2
Make sure you can still open and close the lid. Without being able to do this, the air will not be able to fill up the balloon.
-
Step 3
Attach the balloon to the opening of the lid. Push the stem of the balloon as far as you can down the bottle lid.
-
Step 1
Open the sports bottle lid.
-
Step 2
Blow air into the balloon through the hole in the CD.
-
Step 3
Close the lid so the air cannot escape.
-
Step 4
Release the hovercraft and watch it sore around the room.
-
Step 5
Repeat the process to continually fly the hovercraft.

on 11/24/2008 I love the hovercraft project. I did it with my son and he learned all about air pressure. But we built a bigger version from plywood and a leaf blower. I found another good website with fun cool free experiments like this to do with him. I'll post it below for anyone whos interested.
