Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Choose a spot near the entrance where the family usually enters the home. Any space can be a mudroom: a laundry room, closet, hallway, garage or even an unused space near the door.
Step2
Decide what you can place in the mudroom and fill it with the necessary products to accommodate these items. If you're using it for coats and hats, hang coat hooks. If you want to place wet shoes or boots in the mudroom, plan on adding a rubber mat.
Step3
Make sure the mudroom is big enough for everyone. If you have a large family, make sure the space is large enough for everyone's coats and shoes. Plan a space for everyone by labeling each coat hook or peg and shelf for each family member.
Step4
Use a space that is properly heated and ventilated. This reduces the likelihood of mildew from wet coats and shoes. Add a floor drain and an overhead exhaust fan vented outside, if possible.
Step5
Plan to fill the mudroom with accessories such as a chair, mirror, laundry basket and even recycling bins, if the space allows. Make the room practical and useful in all types of weather and for all members of the family.
