As we learn more about inks and various tattoo techniques, we find new and exciting ways to personalize tattoos. One way is with a black light tattoo, a tattoo that shows up only underneath black lights.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remember, the ink used in black light tattoos is not FDA approved for use on humans. There is one type of ink with FDA approval in the use of animals (such as fishes being tagged and tracked for migration patterns) which does seem to be safe for humans.

  2. Step 2

Find out what kind of ink is being used. Inks with Everglow or phosphorous in them are not recommended. Chameleon tattoo ink appears to be the safest ink.

  3. Step 3

Decide what color ink you want. There are many different colors that will glow beneath a black light. However, white is the only color that will completely disappear unless you're under a black light. This is important if you have a job that won't allow tattoos or a loved one that doesn't like them.

  4. Step 4

Search for a tattoo artist that will do black light tattoos. Many tattoo artists will not do them due to the potential risks from the ink. In addition, black light tattoos are harder to do than regular tattoos.
