45 years ago, the 1932 Roadster was introduced as a model kit car. The 2-Door Roadster Hi-Boy was popular with hot rod lovers in the 1960s. Finding a 1932 Ford to restore is a challenge and it can be expensive.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hammers
  • Pair of slapping spoons
  • Section of railroad track
  • Small anvil
  1. Step 1

Repair or replace all trim on the 1932 Ford Roadster. It will increase the value of your restored classic car.

  2. Step 2

Rub your fingers along the surface of the stainless steel. Check for scratches, blemishes, pits and other abrasions.

  3. Step 3

Mark the high and low spots, scratches and dings you want to repair. If you have the right tools and a gentle touch, you can repair the chrome. If not then you will want to buy new.

  4. Step 4

Take the chrome off the classic car. You will need to have access to both sides for any attempt at repair.

  5. Step 5

Tap the high and low spots on a soft smooth surface. Be careful, you don't want to damage more than you repair.

  6. Step 6

File any abrasions with sandpaper. Don't gouge the stainless steel with a coarse paper. Use a fine grain.

  7. Step 7

Polish the chrome when the repairs are complete. Be careful not to spend too much time on the peaks and high spots. It is possible to rub a hole through the metal.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is important that you take your time and tap slowly—if you rush you will make the damage worse.
  • Shop around your area and on the Internet—some areas of the country are likely to have a certain type of classic car more than others.
  • The best find is still the one that is free just for removing it from a property.
  • Do not hit the surface too hard—light taps work best.
