Tanning indoors is a popular way to achieve a healthy glow. More options are available than ever before, including tanning beds and booths, sunless-tanning lotions, spray-on tans and even airbrushing. Many of these types of indoor tanning may even help you to avoid harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Skin cleaner
  • Loofah or abrasive sponge
  • Moisturizer
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunless or conventional tanning lotion
  1. Step 1

Visit a tanning salon in order to tan indoors. Modern salons and spas offer many tanning services, from traditional tanning beds and booths to large machines that automatically apply spray-on tans. In addition, most tanning salons can help you find the right tanning products, such as lotions, moisturizers and sunscreens, that have been specifically designed for use indoors.

  2. Step 2

Tan indoors by applying a sunless-tanning lotion or cream by yourself. Start off by applying the lotion or cream sparingly to see whether the product achieves a natural skin tone. Once the first coat is dry, you can apply additional layers to create a more natural tan to more commonly exposed areas, such as the cheekbones, nose, forehead and arms.

  3. Step 3

Keep your skin moisturized while you tan indoors. Whether you're exposing your skin to UVA rays in a tanning bed or booth or using a sunless-tanning lotion, it's still important to keep your skin moist and smooth in order to achieve a natural, sun-kissed skin tone.

  4. Step 4

Choose a tanning booth over a bed if possible. With a booth, you are less likely to accidentally burn yourself on a bulb or a hot surface. In addition, you can tan more efficiently in a booth, since all of your skin is exposed to the heat lamps at the same time.

  5. Step 5

Keep your skin exfoliated during the entire tanning process. By scrubbing with a loofah and removing all layers of dead skin, you increase the chances of achieving a smooth, consistent tan all over your body.

  6. Step 6

Use sunscreen when you tan indoors, even if you aren't exposing yourself to the sun. Many sunscreens are specifically designed to protect you from the UVA rays that are emitted from tanning booths and beds and may contain natural ingredients to accelerate your indoor tan and protect your skin.

Tips & Warnings
  • Apply a light coating of sunless-tanning lotion to the tops of your feet for a much more natural effect.
