Everyone has a different type of skin, and for each, there are several varieties of skin cleansers. Cleansers for oily, dry and sensitive skin are common choices. Anti-aging skin cleansers with alpha hydroxy and other acids can reduce and prevent wrinkles and help your skin remain healthy as you age.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Skin cleansers
  • Washcloth

Step1
Choose an anti-aging skin cleanser that is right for your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, opt for a fragrance-free cleanser. Those with dry skin should use a cleanser without alcohol.
Step2
Pick a cleanser that contains alpha hydroxy. This acid functions as an exfoliator, removing dead skin cells from the surface of your face. Alpha hydroxy may also prompt your body to produce more collagen and elastin which reduces the amount of wrinkles you will develop.
Step3
Read the active ingredient list on name-brand facial cleansers to determine whether they have potential anti-aging or anti-wrinkle capabilites. Citric, malic, glycolic and lactic acids are all types of alpha hydroxy acids that can help reverse the signs of aging.
Step4
Buy an anti-aging cleanser that contains moisturizers as well as exfoliating agents. Moisturing your skin will help it stay healthy as you age.
Step5
Use a small amount of anti-aging cleanser on your face and neck, allowing the lather to remove dirt and oils. Rub it into your skin in small circular motions without scrubbing too roughly.
Step6
Rinse the cleanser off your face with warm water. Your face should feel smooth. If you still feel residue from the cleanser, use a damp washcloth to remove it.

Tips & Warnings

  • To benefit from the anti-aging properties of a skin cleanser, choose one that has a concentration of alpha hydroxy of 5 to 8 per cent and a pH level of 3 to 4. These levels are strong enough to help the appearance and health of your skin without being too harsh.
  • The alpha hydroxy that is found in anti-aging facial products may be able to reduce or reverse signs of photoaging--damage done to the skin from exposure the the sun. However, alpha hydroxy can make your skin more sensitive to the effects of the sun. Protect yourself with a sunscreen when you are outdoors, even in the winter.
  • Some people have adverse reactions to anti-aging products containing alpha hydroxy acids. Discontinue use immediately if you feel burning, itching or pain, or notice redness on your skin after using a cleanser.
